Program Note:

This piece is based off the ritual of waking up and reciting personal affirmations to oneself in the mirror daily and requires the performers to make up their own affirmation or pick personal affirmation from the following list to whisper/speak to themselves throughout the piece. It also has roots in the Meisner technique in theatre, where lines are repeated to a partner over and over again adding and stripping emotional depth. The performers must face each other and have coordinated eye movements with their partner to mimic the theatrical source of the technique but also to question the effectiveness of positive self-talk on one’s mood.
